Top 5 Women in eSports.

The role women are playing in the world of competitive gaming has slowly been building momentum over the last couple years.
Marketing and advertising targeting women in gaming has not been without its hurdles but Ralf Reichert, managing director of the ESL, the world’s largest independent
eSports brand, has this to say to women who are skeptical about entering this heavily male dominated sport. "There is no reason why a female gamer should not be able to compete with a male one, and surpass him in terms of skill.” We have compiled a list of 5 women who have heeded these words and are becoming some of the top earners in the eSports industry.

                1) Sasha "Scarlett" Hostyn$102,000

Sasha is a Canadian StarCraft II player who plays Zerg. She started to play StarCraft II in April 2011. She made her first steps in the competitive scene by participating in an online female-only league - the NESL Iron Lady - and winning the tournaments twice in a row in Autumn 2011.

In March 2012, Scarlett won the Playhem "Sponsor Me!" Tournament, an online event reserved for amateur players without a team or a sponsor. Winning that tournament awarded her an all-expenses paid trip to IPL 4 in Las Vegas, where she had a breakthrough performance in the open qualifiers.

Scarlett attended the 2012 StarCraft II World Championship Series Canada, making her way through the winner's bracket and defeating the likes of HuK, Ostojiy, Drewbie and DdoRo to reach the Grand Finals. She eventually overwhelmed Ostojiy once again in this last series, becoming Canada's national champion with a 12-1 record and securing a seed in the 2012 WCS North American Championship.

At the 2012 WCS North American Championship, Scarlett once again tore through the winner's bracket, going through theognis, Mystik, HuK, Insur, and defeating ViBE twice to win the tournament with another 12-1 record.

Sasha is ranked number 1 in earnings by esportsearnings.com and has banked over $102,000 in her career.

Sarah makes the list with her $50,000 winnings from playing Dead or Alive 4. She won her earnings from one tournament. She gives her credit to practicing daily and having a solid team backing her up.

4) Marjorie “Kasumi Chan” Bartell - $50,000

Marjorie is in a similar boat to Ms. Sarah Lou in that she only competed in one tournament to net her $50,000 in prize money. Marjorie competed in the same Dead or Alive 4 tournament that Sarah did but a year before.

5) Rumay "Hafu" Wang - $16,200

Rumay is a female American Hearthstone player, formerly a Bloodline Champions and World of WarCraft player. Rumay wants to be recognized for her gaming, not her gender. She is definitely on the list for this reason and for her winnings racking up to $15,200.
